Džeko Cash Boost for Teplice and Usti

Edin Džeko’s transfer to Man City from Wolfsburg is due to net some welcome crowns to the coffers of North Bohemian neighbours Teplice and Usti nad Labem. The lanky Bosnian spent three goal-sodden years in Czech football, bagging the Gambrinus Liga’s golden boot in 06/07 with 13 goals and subsequently securing his big money move to Wolfsburg as reward.

One leg proving no hindrance to Edin Džeko at Teplice.

The photo above (from gambrinus.cz) shows the big chap during his stint with Teplice. Due to the fact this was prior to his being 24 Teplice are owed sponds in compensation, as per FIFA rules. What’s more, as he was loaned to Usti for 15 games in 2005, they’ll be expecting a windfall as well.

How much exactly? I don’t think anybody yet knows. The Man City deal should be around €30mn, with Teplice due a reported .75%, which comes in at around €225k by my calculations. Not much when you think about it, but better than the proverbial poke in the eye with a sharp stick. Presumably Usti are owed even less, but you’d be surprised how far your money will go in the Czech Republic.
